Why isn't my business showing on Google Maps?
You search for what you do, from your own shop, and you're not there. Here are the usual reasons, in roughly the order to check them, with what you can change and what you can't.

Start here: how Google ranks local results
Google's own help page on local ranking names three things: relevance (does your profile match the search), distance (how far you are from the person searching) and prominence (how well known you are, from reviews, links and mentions). Most of the checklist below is about relevance and prominence, the two you can work on.
The checklist
- Your profile isn't verified, or it's suspended. An unverified profile may not show at all, and a suspended one disappears. Sign in to the account that manages the profile and look for a verification or suspension notice first. Everything else on this list depends on it.
- The person searching is too far away. Distance from the searcher usually matters most, and nobody can change it. A shop can rank well on its own street and not show at all two miles away. Search from your own counter, then from a few blocks out, before deciding something is broken.
- Your main category is wrong or too broad. Your main category tells Google which searches you belong in. A phone repair shop listed as an electronics store will struggle to show for “phone repair”. Pick the closest category from Google's own list.
- There's a duplicate listing. Two listings for one shop (an old address, a listing someone else made) split your reviews and confuse Google. Search Maps for your name and phone number. If you find a duplicate, ask Google to merge or remove it through its support pages rather than making a third one.
- Your address is hidden for a service-area business. If customers don't come to you, Google wants the address hidden and a service area shown instead. That's correct, but it means you'll rarely show for searches far outside the area you set.
- You're closed, or your hours are missing. Being open at the time of the search helps you show up. Missing hours, or holidays without special hours, cost you searches. See the guide to holiday hours.
- Your name, address or phone differ on other sites. Google compares your profile with directories and your own website. An old phone number on Yelp or a different suite number on Facebook is a small doubt each time. Make them match exactly.
- The profile is thin. No services, no description, few photos and no website link give Google little to match a search to. Add Google's suggested services for your category first, then a plain description of what you do, then real photos.
- Few reviews, or none lately. How many reviews you have, how good they are and how recent they are all count. A competitor with a steady flow of new reviews will usually outrank one whose last review was a year ago.
- Keywords stuffed into your business name. Adding words like “Best Cheap iPhone Repair” to your name can get your profile suspended. Use your real name, as it appears on your sign.
What to do next
Fix what's in your control, then give it time: changes to a profile and its reviews usually take weeks to show in where you rank, not days. Nobody can promise a place in the Maps top 3 or a date you'll get there.
